SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR VIDYA MANDIR, NOIDA
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir was started by a few enthusiastic volunteers
and Mrs. Vanika Gupta – Art of Living Part I teacher and the coordinator of SSRVM,
Noida. Initially SSRVM, Noida began with a small number of children, in a
rented accommodation in Sector – 11, Noida, 4 years back.
Two volunteers who took a training of being SSRVM teachers took over the charge
and the activities of the school gained acceleration. The students from SSRVM
were admitted to all the prestigious schools of Noida i.e. Delhi Public School,
Amity, Cambridge, Apeejay etc. Currently the school is being run in Sector
– 51, Noida.
The curriculum of SSRVM in unique in the sense that it makes children grow up in
a sensitized and empathetic environment. We make sure that the children are
friendly not only without their human environment, but also the trees and birds.
The day begins with the children feeding the birds and watering the plants in the
premises of the school. Warm up exercises with simple Yoga Asanas, Shloka
chanting followed by prayer. The daily activities include Art & Craft,
coloring, sketching, clay modeling, block building, and Jigsaw Puzzles for sharpening
their mental abilities.
Children learn by the surrounding environment as opposed to the bookish information.
The method of show and observation is adopted practically with fruits, vegetables,
leaves, shapes, figures.
Out door activities are also implied for better practical understanding of the children.
They include visits to the Temple, Mosque, Church, Gurudhwara, park, Mother Dairy,
Doctor’s Clinic, Post Office etc.
Field trips are taken to the Gaushala and agricultural fields to make them aware
of the food grains, vegetables, milk products etc. It is an attempt to make them
aware of the richness of Mother Earth.
Camps
Apart from the play school, SSRVM took up the venture of organizing camps for children.
Our summer camp was to Jim Corbett National Park. It was conducted by Art-Excel
and YES course teachers and volunteers. The main idea on which these camps
are organized is to make the children break out of their comfort zones. Here
everybody enjoyed the copious wildlife and its surroundings. Also included
were activities like Rock Climbing, Pottery, Jungle Safari, Swimming etc.
The idea was to inculcate in the children values of adaptability to new situations,
ecological friendliness, self-confidence and belongingness. We made an effort
to bring out the hidden qualities and talents of the children. An Art-Excel
course was organized there among the verdant forests and nature walks activities
were also held.
Know Your Child
The school regularly organizes the Know Your Child workshops. It is the orientation
of parents,
where they communicate with the teachers and volunteers. They
are also guided as to the upbringing of their children. The common problems
of children and how to deal with them are discussed.
Festival and National Events
Every festival and national event is celebrated with equal enthusiasm and gaiety.
The children are briefed on the importance and relevance of such occasions.
They are also made to be acquainted with the idea behind such an occasion.
This not only helps in the character building but also helps the reasoning power
of the children.
